Remove the sample data

How-to

Your shop starts with a sample product, customer and service ticket to practice on. What they are, how to remove them in one tap, and what stays.

What this is for. A new shop isn't empty. OneDive adds a few sample records so you can tap around the register and the Service board before your own products and customers are in. Practice on them as much as you like, then remove them before you open, so they don't turn up in your catalog, your customer list or your reports.

What the sample data is

  • A product called Demo Regulator. It's in your catalog with a Sample badge. You can ring it up to practice a sale.
  • A sample customer. A OneDive customer, already in your customer list.
  • A sample service ticket. "Demo Regulator — annual service", for the sample customer, in the Intake column on the Service board with a Sample badge. Its Work and parts section says "Charges are off on demo tickets.", so it can't be charged.
  • A sample connection to OneDive Demo Distributor, the made-up supplier the Demo Regulator comes from.

The Sample badge on the product and the ticket says OneDive added them. All four go when you remove the sample data.

Setup knows the difference. While Demo Regulator is your only product, the products task in Setup says "Sample data only. Add a real product to finish this step." Removing the sample data doesn't finish it: adding one real product does. See Get your products in.

Remove it

Open the Sample data card

Go to Settings › Business Settings › Sample data. The Sample data card is the last one on the page. It says "Your shop was set up with a sample product, customer, and service ticket so you can explore the point of sale. Remove them whenever you're ready." and has a red Remove sample data button.

No card? It shows only while your shop still has sample data, so yours is already gone and there's nothing to do.

Confirm

Tap Remove sample data. Nothing is removed yet. A box asks Remove sample data? and says "This permanently removes the seeded sample product, customer, and service ticket from your shop. This can't be undone." Cancel closes the box and changes nothing.

Tap the red Remove sample data in the box to remove all of it at once. It says Removing… for a moment, then the box and the Sample data card both close. That's it.

What changes, and what stays

  • Gone: Demo Regulator from your catalog and the register, the sample customer from your customer list, the sample ticket from the Service board, and the OneDive Demo Distributor connection.
  • Stays: any practice sale you rang up with the Demo Regulator. It's a real sale, so it stays in Settings › Transactions and in your reports. To take it off your takings, refund it before you remove the sample data: see Ring one up and refund it.
  • Stays: everything you added yourself. Only the records OneDive added are removed.
  • Ticket numbers: the sample ticket used your first ticket number of the year, so your first real ticket may end in 00002. That's expected.
There's no undo here. If you remove the sample data and want it back, ask OneDive support: see Contact support.

If it doesn't work

  • "Could not remove sample data" with a code after it: you aren't the owner or a General Manager. A Manager can open this page and see the button, but only the owner or a General Manager can remove the data. Ask one of them.
  • Any other message: wait a moment and try again. If it keeps happening, contact support.
