Class pages on your Shopify store

Mission 3 of 5

Each class page on your store shows its next dates and a Book button. Students pick a class and pay with OneDive, plus a 1% booking fee.

What this is for. Your class pages on Shopify sell through Shopify's date picker and Add to cart. Book with OneDive puts the OneDive booking card there instead, the same card your trip pages show. Students see the next class dates, pick one, and pay with OneDive in a window over your page. They're enrolled the moment they pay, and the money goes to your Stripe account like your register's card sales.

What students see

Each class page shows the OneDive card where the date picker and Add to cart were:

  • Next classes, with up to five upcoming class dates. Each shows its dates, its days and start time, and how many seats are left when the class has a size. A full class isn't listed. Each date opens the booking window with that class already picked.
  • Check dates and book, the button. It opens the OneDive booking window over your page.
  • When no date is online, the card says No class dates online right now. The button stays, because a student can still book a private class or pick a date later.
  • A line below the button: Booking and payment by OneDive. Full refund if the shop cancels.

In the booking window the student picks one of three:

  • a class date;
  • Private class, when the course offers one (see Add a course and schedule a class);
  • I'll pick a date later. They pay now, and you set their class with them.

Then they say who is taking the class, agree to your class cancellation policy and pay. A student who picked a date is on that class's list in Courses. A private class or a pick-later student waits on the course page under Awaiting a class: see Students waiting for a class.

The 1% booking fee

  • The student pays a 1% OneDive booking fee on top of your class price. It's shown at checkout.
  • You get your full class price. The fee is never billed to your shop, on any plan.
  • When you cancel, the student gets the fee back with the rest. When the student asked to cancel, OneDive keeps the fee. A released seat gets back its price and tax, less that seat's fee.
  • Stripe's own card fee is yours, as on any card sale. Stripe doesn't give it back when a booking is refunded.

Turn it on or off

In Settings › Online store, under Class pages, the switch is Book with OneDive on your class pages. The panel shows once your store lists courses or class dates, and whenever the switch is on or a class page still has the OneDive Book button, so you can always see it and turn it off. Anyone who can change your store's settings there can flip it; everyone else sees On or Off.

  • A store connected with the OneDive B2B Sync app: it starts on.
  • A store connected with your own app: it starts off. Paste the updated booking card into your trip page design first, then turn it on. The card and the steps are in Settings › Online store › Trip page guide.
  • If the panel says Shopify has not given OneDive the Write products permission yet, choose Update permissions in Shopify first. The switch waits for it.

Turn it off and your class pages go back to Shopify's date picker and Add to cart at the next sync.

Before it switches

OneDive switches a class page only when all of this is true:

  • Your class cancellation policy is filled in, in Settings › Online Booking › Class cancellation policy. Students agree to it when they book a class online. Until then the panel says Add your class cancellation policy in Settings › Online Booking to switch your class pages.
  • Your shop is ready for online booking, with Stripe taking card payments. Settings › Online Booking lists anything missing: see Get your shop ready for online booking.
  • The course is active, listed on your store and has a price.
  • OneDive has seen the class card on your store, unless your store is password protected (see the note below). Before it switches the first class page, OneDive opens one of your class pages on your store, as a visitor would, and looks for the OneDive class card. It switches nothing until it finds it, and checks again about once a day after that. If the card is gone, it puts your class pages back on Shopify's cart.

The check needs at least one class product published to your Online Store. Until it has run, the panel says OneDive checks your trip page design at the next sync, before it switches a class page. If the card isn't there, it says Your trip page design doesn't show the OneDive class card yet, and each row says Page design needs the OneDive card.

A password-protected store can't be opened by visitors, so OneDive can't see the card either. It switches your class pages anyway, because nobody can buy from a locked store, and checks again at every sync. The panel says Your store is password protected, so OneDive checks your class page design again once it's open. Once the store is open, a check that finds no class card puts the pages back.

Your theme

Class pages use the trip page design you made for your trips, onedive-tour, so your theme needs no change. If your trip pages show the Book button, your class pages will too. No trip page design yet? Do steps 1 to 4 of Put your trips on your Shopify store first.

OneDive only switches a class page that's on your store's standard design, Default product. It sets the page's Theme template to onedive-tour, and sets it back when it stops. It never edits your theme.

Colors, fonts, photos, the title and the description stay as they are. The layout is the one thing that can change: onedive-tour is a copy of Default product from the day you made it, so if you've changed Default product since, a switched class page shows the older layout.

Check it before you turn the switch on.

  1. In your Shopify admin, choose Online Store, then Edit theme.
  2. In the page picker at the top, choose Products, then Default product, and pick one of your class products to preview.
  3. Switch the page picker to onedive-tour, with the same class product in the preview.
  4. Compare the two. Only the booking area should differ: the date picker and Add to cart on Default product, the OneDive card on onedive-tour. If anything else is different, like a section that's missing or in another place, make onedive-tour again from Default product before you turn the switch on.

Make onedive-tour again from Default product.

  1. In your Shopify admin, choose Online Store. On your current theme, open the … menu and choose Edit code.
  2. Under templates, open product.json. That is Default product. Copy everything in it.
  3. Open product.onedive-tour.json, replace everything in it with what you copied, and choose Save.
  4. Straight away, open onedive-tour in the theme editor and do steps 3 and 4 of Put your trips on your Shopify store again: remove the buy buttons and add the OneDive block. Choose Save.

Your trip pages use onedive-tour too, so they get the same update. Until step 4 is saved, they and your switched class pages show Add to cart, so do steps 3 and 4 together.

A listing that uses its own page design

A class page on a design of its own, not Default product and not onedive-tour, keeps it: OneDive never switches it. In Settings › Online store, its row says Uses its own page design, with Add the OneDive block to it. OneDive still puts the class dates on the product, so the block shows them once you add it:

  1. In your Shopify admin, choose Online Store, then Edit theme.
  2. In the page picker, choose Products, then the template that page uses. Its name is the page's Theme template.
  3. Under Product information, choose Add block, then the Apps tab, then OneDive tour booking. Put it where the buy buttons are, and remove Variant picker and Buy buttons so the page has no Add to cart. Choose Save.

On a store connected with your own app, paste the booking card into that template instead, as Settings › Online store › Trip page guide shows.

The same goes for a switched class page you move to another design yourself: OneDive leaves it where you put it, and its row says Uses its own page design. To have OneDive switch it again, set it back to Default product, then turn Book with OneDive on your class pages off and on.

If you remove the OneDive app

Once the app is gone, OneDive can't change your store, and the app's booking card stops showing. Class pages OneDive switched stay on onedive-tour, with no Book button and no Add to cart. Set each one back by hand:

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Products, then a class product that showed the Book button.
  2. Set Theme template to Default product and choose Save.

If you install the app again, it picks your class pages up at its first sync. A page you set back to Default product counts as your own choice: OneDive leaves it there, and its row says Uses its own page design. To have OneDive switch those pages again, turn Book with OneDive on your class pages off and on.

On a store connected with your own app, OneDive won't disconnect while a class page still shows the Book button. It says Some class pages on this store still show the OneDive Book button. Turn off Book with OneDive on your class pages in Settings › Online store, wait for the next sync, then disconnect.

Good to know

  • Shopify's cart still works. A class page OneDive hasn't switched, or has put back, sells through Shopify's date picker and Add to cart as before, and so does a quick-add button on a collection page. Those orders reach your POS as they always have, with no booking fee.
  • Switching changes only the page design and the class data the card reads. OneDive never changes a class page's title, description, photos or options to switch it.
  • Seats left on the page refresh within about 15 minutes. The booking window always counts seats live, so nobody can book a seat that's gone.
  • To cancel or refund a student who booked online, use Cancel booking on the class's seat in Courses, or on the customer's Classes tab. See Cancel a class or refund a student.
  • Each online booking tells your staff with the same New course sign-up email and bell as a Shopify order: see Course emails.
